Goodbye clutter!

Posted by Joe on Aug 2, 2010

I’ve decided to wage war on my office clutter, especially all those damn cables that were everywhere from the printer, speakers, hard drives etc.  So I pulled my desk from the wall and put it in the middle of the room where the backside was exposed to all, making the cable disaster far too embarrassing to live with.  So out with all the clutter and now just a nice solitary power cable.  It feels good to have all this nice desktop real estate again… damn good.

Note: The speakers made there way into the kitchen where they now supply my music to cook by.  C heck out our flickr feed for that photo.

Weekend Trip: Canyon de Chelly

Posted by Joe on Jul 13, 2010

Wow. That is probably the best way to describe this last weekend.  What an incredible adventure.  After making the 6.5 hour drive up to Chinle we were met by a small Navajo Reservation town that seemed really down on it’s luck.  A town in the middle of nowhere, littered with poorly kept public housing, abandoned dogs, and trash everywhere. This was definitely not the best first impression when arriving at a National Monument.  As we entered Canyon De Chelly’s property the visuals of the town seemed to follow us in.  Again, not very promising so far, but then there was the Canyon.

It slowly creeps up on you, starting with a glimpse of the 30 foot tall canyon walls at it’s entrance, gradually getting taller as you drive along the rim .  Mind you one cannot enter the canyon without a NPS approved Navajo guide, so your trip is driving along the north or south edge of the canyon.  Several overlooks dot the rims.  We choose the South Rim for a few particular stops we had wanted to make.  The first of which was the White House Ruins overlook.  Looking down 1000 feet into the Canyon you see a small clay-brick community built into the cliff side at the base.  But who could stand for such a remote view?

Happy Poppa Day!

Posted by Elyse on Jun 20, 2010

Happy Poppa Day to all the wonderful dads out there … and to our poppas especially. We’re so lucky to have such great male role models in our lives and we appreciate all that they do for us … whether it be laying  cork flooring or tearing out tree stumps. Hugs and kisses to our poppas!

Today we went for a hike in the Saguaro National Park East with my parents. It’s a really nice walk, but it got pretty hot towards the end. We then had a nice brunch at The Good Egg. Yum!

I’d say today was the first day that it was legitimately too hot to be outside during the day. We have the theory that summertime here is like wintertime back in the midwest – you just don’t go outside. But when it’s sunny outside, you feel a little guilty taking a nap or reading a book. Walk outside though, and you get over it pretty fast.
